Self-organise

We need more people working in more sectors at all levels to make sustainable living a reality. We need more initiatives with reach, ambition and creativity. To date each individual Emergence project has followed a sense of inspiration and perceived need and relied on making the right contacts at the right time for its future direction and impetus.

For the initiative to continue it feels important to not limit or restrict Emergence to a small core of individuals or practice. We would like to see more Emergence projects flourish and grow. We would like to see Emergence as part of the ‘collective commons’, with potential to catalyse and inspire new projects and collaborations. Our wish is for these projects to keep growing, innovating and increasing their reach.

Emergence has succeeded in lighting the blue touch-paper by embedding sustainability within the arts sector and raising its profile with artists and organisations in Wales. It has also served to highlight the work of a many pioneering projects through its work inculuding Centre for Alternative Technology, Julies Bicycle, People United, Happy Museum, Mission Models & Money, Tipping Point, Transition Network, Platform and Arts Admin’s Two Degrees Festival, to name but a few. Emergence trusts in the ‘self-organising’ abilities of those who have been inspired by the early projects to go forth and do their own work in this area.

We are committed in future to seeing Emergence evolve and develop, creating new projects and partnerships and becoming a learning and evolving community of practice, constantly fed by each new partnership activity. The Emergence website acts as a central hub and focus to link all projects which have developed out of the Emergence stable.

There are many ways to be involved and to connect to the Emergence project. These might involve one or more of the following;

• Screening of Emergence film Walking to the Summit followed by a discussion
• Screening Emergence film Store (for future) followed by a discussion
• Performance of ‘Doin’ Dirt Time’ followed by a discussion
• Organizing a Walking Party in your local area
• Hosting a World Café event
• Organizing a talk about the principles and practice of Emergence by one of the Emergence team
• Getting involved in the Re-tracing our Steps involving walking the Emergence Land Journey’s through mid Wales (North & South)
• Downloading Emergence artist Ansuman Biswas’ Virtual Walk which can be walked alone or incorporated into wider/collective events.
• Organising an Emergence conference (a small or large one!)
• Getting coaching, mentoring or advice for your own Emergence or arts/sustainability project
• Contacting one of the artists/presenters from the Emergence website and co-creating a project
• Organising a Making, Being and Doing activity or workshop
• Organising an Quest Space to initiate collaborative projects that will help you to be active in the design of the future
• Developing new partnerships to embark on larger collaborative projects. We see the importance of both ‘macro’ and the ‘micro’ events working in tandem and believe that one size definitely does NOT suit all!
